The Nigerian Minister of Agriculture and Rural development, Mr. Audu Ogbe has said that the country is spending over a billion dollars a year to import milk and it’s products. This is however, a situation that needs to be reversed in order to effectively combat malnutrition in children and improve the country’s economy. He said so during the 2019 National Animal Production Research Institute (NAPRI) Open Day and project commissioning ceremony in Shika Zaria, Kaduna state, North West Nigeria.
The minister stated that malnutrition affects not just the physical development of children but also has adverse effect on their mental development.
He stressed the importance of milk consumption in children adding that NAPRI has a huge role to play in achieving this feat.
The Minister commended the effort of NAPRI in improving the Livestock sector in the country.
