The Zamfara state government in Northern Nigeria, has begun the supply of 350 trailer load of fertiliser to farmers for the 2019 farming season.
The state’s Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, while launching the sales of the commodity in Tsafe on Wednesday said that each of the 14 local government areas of the state would receive 25 trailer load.
“We have decided to launch the sales of fertiliser at this time this year so that our farmers can buy and take their fertiliser to their farms in good time.
“Zamfara has continued to be the major supplier of the food needs of this nation and despite our security challenges, we will continue to maintain this position to produce enough and even export the excess,” the Governor said.
He said that from peasant farming, the state had now grown into large scale farming with more farmers going into mechanised methods.
Yari, who launched the fertiliser sales in company of the All Progressive Congress (APC) governor-elect, Alhaji Muktar Idris said that the commodity would be sold at N6, 000 per bag.
He warned that any move to divert the commodity would be met with stiff penalties of the law.
